Boxing Day/День подарунків.

Arina на Myspace
Boxing Day is a bank and public holiday traditionally celebrated on the 26th of December mainly in United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
The term "Boxing Day” is related to middle aged custom to give servants a box containing gifts .
The day after Christmas, servants took wooden boxes to work so that employers could fill those boxes with money or food in return for good and reliable service throughout the year.
Likewise, nowadays, on the boxing Day employers give gifts to their employees.

May this Boxing Day be as happy and cheerful as Christmas was.
May the happy story continue till the New Year and take over from there too.
Have a great Boxing Day, my friends!;)

Holidays:St. Nicolas Day/Свята: День Святого Миколая.

St. Nicholas Does His Magic. Free St. Nicholas Day eCards 12…
Happy St. Nicolas Day, my dear friends!;)
Ірина Хомин ВКонтакте
Holy Bishop St. Nicholas lived faraway
Near the Aegean Sea is where Turkey did lay.
Travel back with us now to a time long ago.
We will visit his country, his life we will know.
We remember this saint, such a holy, good man.
Be like him in charity, do all that you can.
Many miracles Nicholas hastened to do,
Helping people in need with gifts that were new.
Bishop Nicholas traveled to Nicea town,
Where the Creed would be written, to us handed down.
During church every Sunday, we stand for the Creed.
Thank you Bishop St. Nicholas, for doing this deed.
Sailors tossed in the wind and the storms of the sea,
Saw a vision of Nicholas who guided them free.
Now patron of sailing, they remember him yet.
Many icons and pictures with fisherman's net.
Giving money to poor girls, so marry could they,
Made our Nicholas famous, remembered today.
With dowry in hand, soon they were wed
"God bless you and keep you," St. Nicholas said.
Kid's patron in Germany, Netherlands, too.
Asks that presents be given to children like you.
Their customs are different: they put out their shoes—
Filling them with toys, his coming's good news!
Here stockings are hung by the chimney with care,
In hope that St. Nicholas soon will come there.
Dressed as bishop or Santa, he's one and the same—
Jolly, friendly, good man, we're glad that he came.
Call him "Santa" or "saint," they both mean the same,
For his nickname is Claus, short for Nicholas' name.
Giving gifts was his custom—we still do today.
Deeds done in Jesus' name forever will stay.
Bishop Nicholas still is a hero to all.
Christmas Day, and all others we follow his call,
Bringing gifts and some joy to children in need.
Follow Nicholas today—do a good deed.

Music in our life: Here comes the snow;)

Today is a very lovely day, my dear friends! Winter has presented us with snow!:)

Snow makes whiteness where it falls.
The bushes look like popcorn-balls.
The places where I always play
Look like somewhere else today.

Holidays: Thanksgiving Day/Свята: День Подяки.

Thanksgiving day - Фото 7751/9
On November 27 people in the United States celebrate Thanksgiving Day. This is one of the most popular festivals in the country. Thanksgiving Day was first celebrated in 1621 by English colonists who lived in Plymouth Colony. Previous winter was very severe and promised hunger for the new colonists. Then Governor William Bradford decided to raise the spirits of his people and organized the first Thanksgiving Day. This holiday gethered together the British colonists and their neighbours, the Indians, with the help of who the Plymouth Colony survived the first winter of starvation. The Puritans brought to this festival a deep religious meaning - they saw it as a way to thank God for mercy.
Thanksgiving Day became a national holiday after the relevant decree of the first President George Washington in 1789.
Thanksgiving Day is associated with a number of traditions that Americans honor.
All family members  go to church and after the service get together at  the holiday dinner.

The second most important attribute of Thanksgiving  Day is a turkey. At the first festival the colonists and the Indians roasted and ate together four turkeys, shot down in a nearby forest. Since then, the turkey and Thanksgiving Day became synonymous.

The third attribute of the holiday are parades and fun.

I want to conratulate all my American friends on Thanksgiving Day and wish all of you blessings of health, happiness and success on this day and always!

English for young learners: Future Simple/Англійська для наймолодших:Майбутній час

En:The easiest way for young learners to remember the  Future Simple is singing a funny song "A Hunting We Will Go". This lovely song will also help to teach kids the names of animals and words that rhyme with them.
Let's sing together;)

Ua:Найлегший спосіб для молодших школярів запам'ятати Майбутній час - це заспівати пісню "На полювання ми підемо"("A Hunting We Will Go"). Ця чудова пісня також допоможе навчити дітей назвам тварин та словам, що римуються з ними.
Давайте заспіваємо разом;)

Halloween for children:poems/Хеллоуін для дітей:віршики

Here is a collection of funny Halloween poems for young learners:

Halloween, Halloween, magic night.
We are glad and very bright.
We all dance and sing and recite,
“Welcome! Welcome! Halloween night!”

Trick or treat

Trick or treat, trick or treat,
Give us something good to eat.
Give us candy, give us cake,
Give us something sweet to take.
Give us cookies, fruit and gum,
Hurry up and give us some.
You had better do it quick
Or we’ll surely play a trick.
Trick or treat, trick or treat,
Give us something good to eat.

It's Halloween

by Jack Prelutsky

It's Halloween! It's Halloween!

The moon is full and bright
And we shall see what can't be seen
On any other night:
Skeletons and ghosts and ghouls,
Grinning goblins fighting duels,
Werewolves rising from their tombs,
Witches on their magic brooms.
In masks and gouns we haunt the street
And knock on doors for trick or treat.
Tonight we are the king and queen,
For oh tonight it's Halloween!

Halloween Song
I was a monster the other night

And I gave everyone such a fright
It was the scariest Halloween
I've ever seen

I saw a fairy princess

In a wig and silver dress
It was the scariest Halloween
I've ever seen

There were orange pumpkins and vampire bats

There were lots of witches wearing big black hats
I saw a clown juggling and a mummy shuffling
It was the scariest Halloween I've ever seen

There were little devils dancing up and down

There were hairy spiders crawling on the ground
It was the scariest Halloween I've ever seen
It was the scariest Halloween I've ever seen

The animated musical version of "The 5 Little Pumpkins:

Five little pumpkins
Five little pumpkins
Sitting on a gate
The first one said,
«Oh my it's getting late!»
The second one said,
«There are witches in the air!»
The third one said,
«But we don't care!»
The fourth one said,
«Let's run and run!»
The fifth one said,
«I'm ready for some fun!»
«WOOOOOOOH», went the wind,
And OUT went the light;
And the five little pumpkins
Rolled out of sight!

English is Great: Reading

There are holidays now but as John Lennon said "Time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted". And I can't but agree with him. So today let's devote our time to reading. It's quite obvious that reading is a very important part for learning English.  Reading comprehension tests can help you to improve vocabulary, grammar, and logical thought ability. I've decided to talk about reading because in November we're going to have the second tour of our English contest. So why not prepare for this event?
You can learn to apply a range of techniques in order to extract from texts the information you need:
1. Skimming - reading quickly in order to find out what the text is about. Skimming can also take in features such as headings, subheadings and illustrations to obtain an overview of the subject matter.

2. Scanning - to locate specific information, making use of key words.

3. Detailed reading - reading carefully to aid understanding. When reading for information, detailed reading usually follows scanning. Some texts, such as instructions, need to be read in detail throughout.

Think about the following questions as you read:

• What is it for?
• Where is it coming from?
• Who is it aimed at?
• What can I infer that isn't explicitly stated?
• Do I believe it?

Here are some tips for improving your reading skills:
- Practice reading every day. You should read different fields to improve your vocabulary.
- Take note all new words and learn them.
Good luck!;)
