English Language Day

As you all have already known 2016 is proclaimed the year of English in Ukraine. 
And December, 14 is the Day of English in Ukrainian schools. On this day we have special lessons dedicated to William Shakespeare. So I decided to help my seventh formers to learn more interesting information about this great British bard.
We got acquainted with Shakespeare's life facts with the help of this lovely video from Fiveminded 

Then we had an online tour to the Shakespeare's Globe theatre

And my students performed a scene from "King Lear" play:

After the performance we listened to Shakespeare's Sonnet 66 and its translated version by Dmytro Pavlychko 

At the end of our lesson my students took part in a quiz dedicated to Shakespeare's life and works.

A Day in the History:Washington

December, 1 is a special day for Washington, because on December 1, 1800 this city became  a capital of the United States of America, heart and centre of the Land of Liberty.
The territory of the capital of the District of Columbia was named in honor of Christopher Columbus, and the city - Washington in honor of the first president of the United States - George Washington.
 A military engineer and member of the Revolutionary War Pierre L'Enfant was a designer of the plan of this city. Langfang wanted to create a series of architectural ensembles, which would have resembled buildings of ancient Rome and Versailles. And he really succeeded in his work.

Hello December! ;)

Hot chocolate, cold snow, warm sweaters, bright lights, Christmas... This list is endless, isn't it?
Today is the first of December, my dear friends, the last month of the year and the beginning of a new season, cold, but at the same time full of exciting things like white snow, winter holidays and Christmas, of course, with its bright lights, X-tree, presents and best wishes. 

Although I'm an adult, I have still been waiting  for a miracle. And winter for me is like a fairy - tale.

Mini-projects for the youngest learners"Describing people" (form 2)

Today my second grade students have learnt how to describe people. 
We are so different and there are so many words to describe our appearance: from parts of the body to clothes items.
First of all it's necessary to learn all these words.

After learning words it's high time to check our knowledge. So I gave my students this picture and they created their own images.

Our school life: Greenwich - 2016

On November 24 my students have taken part in the English language contest "Greenwich - 2016". This year our "English language family" has grown up in number and it's very good, because it means that there are more those who want to know and speak English. 

I am very proud of my students and wish all of them good luck and the best results.

The World Hello Day

Hello, my dear friends!
Have you already said 'hello' to at least ten people today? Why, you ask me?!
Because today is the World Hello Day!!! 
   This day was invented  in 1973 when there was a number of conflicts in the world . The holiday  was offered to celebrate  by two brothers Brian and Michael Maccomack. They said that this festival was a kind of protest against the tense relations between countries. To tell the world about the new holiday  they sent their greetings to many countries. There was only one request - to send the same greeting to another ten people. This idea was immediately  supported by 180 countries.
    This lovely holiday has become multinational and independent of the factors such as occupation, religion or belief. This day brings together children and adults, movie stars and ordinary people - all who want to make the world a more tolerant and friendly.
So I want to send my 'hello' to my friends in the whole world!

School menu:Sandwich Masters contest

On Friday, 18 my 5th grade students took part in the Sandwich Master contest. They have just learnt the topic "Food", so I offered them to check their knowledge with the help of the project work on the topic "School menu".
What do students put in their packed lunch more often? Sandwiches, of course. So why not show creativity. I asked my students to cook their own sandwiches, give them names, write the recipes and represent the information to the class. At the end of the contest we summed up the results and found out that this simple food can be various.

This lovely holiday is getting more and more popular in my country.

So my dear sixth - graders and I decided to celebrate this Halloween with great fun. My students recited funny Halloween poems, watched the video about Halloween traditions, did the crossword and played traditional apple bobbing game. After our little concert all the participants got sweets and little souvenirs. We all had a very good time.

Hello, Autumn!

Today is the sixth day of autumn, my dear friends. And I am usually not so happy to say good bye to my favourite summer, but 
In fact, autumn  is not sad, but wonderful and beautiful season of the  year. It has lots of advantages. I want to share with you 10 reasons to love autumn with the help of  famous illustrator Bird Born's wonderful pictures. So don't be sad and enjoy the pics!;)

Day of Potato Chips

Crispy potato chips  have become a real cult not only among young people but among the older generation, too. Manufacturers are constantly experimenting with a variety of flavors, even allowing gourmets to enjoy precisely the nuances of flavor that they prefer to all others.
And today on August 24 potato chips celebrate their birthday. So where did they come from?
 On August 24, 1853, George Cram - a chef at Hotel Moon's Lake Lodge in the town of Saratoga Springs (NY) for the first time prepared potato chips.
One of the visitors complained about  too thick fried potatoes. And then Cram served the  potato slices the thickness of the paper, sprinkled with salt and fried  to a crisp in boiling oil.
To the chef's great surprise the  client was delighted with the new dish. Soon  Saratoga Chips have gained popularity. In 1860, Cram opened his own restaurant, where there always were baskets of potato chips on  the tables.

Today it is the most popular American food  has become almost international, although the debates about its benefits and dangers do not stop until now.

Even Google has become blue and yellow today

Because today Ukraine is celebrating its 25th anniversary of the declaration of independence.

So, happy Independence Day, Ukraine!

The Day of Kharkiv.

Kharkiv is a regional center, the second largest city in Ukraine and one of the largest cities in the world.
It is located in the north - eastern part of the country on the elevated plateau of the rivers Kharkiv and Lopan.
By the number of historic sights Kharkov is the second after Kiev in  Ukraine and is a member of the League of Historical Cities.

According to some sources, the name of the city came from the river Kharkiv, on the other side - from the legendary Cossack Kharko.

The main attraction of Kharkiv is the Square of Liberty.

One of the symbols of the city is the Mirror stream in the park of the Victory.

In Kharkov, as well as in other old cities of Ukraine, there are many cathedrals and churches that affect its greatness and beauty. The pride of the city are Yuri Gagarin Planetarium. , a large zoo, ropeway through the botanical garden and  Gorky park,  children's railway.

And this beautiful city is celebrating its anniversary on August 23. Kharkiv is 363 years old.

This city is dear to me because of my alma mater, the V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National  University, which I graduated from in 2008. And this year my brother has become the student of it, too.
